Additional Help For Walt Disney World To Go Documents

There are three guides in the Walt Disney World To Go guide collection. They are the Parks Guide, the Menus Guide and the Live Entertainment Guide. They are called:

WDW_ToGo_Full ... for the Parks Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Menus ... for the Menus Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Live ... for the Live Entertainment Guide to Walt Disney World

The iSilo versions are named:

WDW_ToGo_Full_isilo.pdb ... for the Parks Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Menus_isilo.pdb ... for the Menus Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Live_isilo.pdb ... for the Live Entertainment Guide to Walt Disney World

The Plucker versions are named:

WDW_ToGo_Full_plkr.pdb ... for the Parks Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Menus_plkr.pdb ... for the Menus Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Live_plkr.pdb ... for the Live Entertainment Guide to Walt Disney World

The iPod verisons are named

WDW_ToGo_Full ... for the Parks Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Menus ... for the Menus Guide to Walt Disney World
WDW_ToGo_Live ... for the Live Entertainment Guide to Walt Disney World

The guides may be used on several handheld and palmtop devices, currently the guides are usable on:

Palm OS devices
PocketPC devices
iPod devices that support the iPod Notes function

On Palm OS devices you may read the guides using either the iSilo Document reader (http://www.isilo.com) or the Plucker Document reader (http://www.plkr.org).

On PocketPC devices you my read the guides using the iSilo Document reader (http://www.isilo.com), also there is a version of the Plucker Document reader called Vade Mecum. I have not used Vade Mecum but I understand it works quite well. It is available from (http://vade-mecum.sourceforge.net/).

Note: There is no built-in support on Palm OS or PocketPC devices for the Walt Disney World To Go documents. You must use one of the supported document readers (iSilo or Plucker) to read the guides on your Palm OS or PocketPC device.

iPod Help

When using the iPod, no extra document reader is required, you just need to use an iPod that supports the iPod Notes function. These iPods are the 3rd, 4th (iPod Photo) and 5th (iPod with video). An easy to find out if your iPod supports notes is to navigate to the “Extras” in your iPod (where you find such things as Clock, Games, Calendar) here you should also see an option called “Notes”If you have not used Notes before, you many have a Note called “Instructions” there.

This read me file contains help and instructions for all versions, be sure to read through it, it can help you to avoid some of the pitfalls of installing and using the guides on the various devices.

1. The iPod notes function only allows about 1000 pages, the three guide sets are a little over 800 pages, so it would be best if you don’t have any other notes on your iPod while you are using the guides, or at least a very limited number of notes.

2. If you originally put the trial versions of the guides on your iPod, you should remove them. They don’t contain anything you need for the full versions.

3. The following are the folders you downloaded, this is how they look after unzipping. You should open these folders up. They contain a readem.html document and the folders with the guides. These folders should not be installed on your iPod.

wdwtogfull_ipod
wdwtogolive_ipod
wdwtogomenus_ipod

4. The following folders that are contained in the folders with _ipod in their names The following folders are the only folders that should be loaded on your iPod Notes folder, and when you look at the Notes function on your iPod this is what you should see, including the capitalization and punctuation (the _ character). The order of the files may be different, but this is what you should see.

WDW_ToGo_Full
WDW_ToGo_Menus
WDW_ToGo_Live

Installing and using the Walt Disney World To Go iPod guides.

To install the Walt Disney World To Go guides

1. Mount your iPod as an external drive via FireWire or USB, just as you would to work with iTunes

2. The iPod will show up on your computer just like any other internal or external drive.

3. Open the iPod “drive” as you would with any disk on your computer.

4. Open the notes folder on your iPod on your PC or Mac - on Windows it will show up in "My Computer", on the Mac in the finder sidebar, or in the Computer (use the Finder’s Go Menu to open your “Computer” window)

5. Open the unzipped folder titled: wdwtogfull_ipod, wdwtogomenus_ipodand/or wdwtogolive_ipod. In this folder you will see a folder titled: WDW_ToGo_Full, WDW_ToGo_Menus, and/or WDW_ToGo_Live (this contains the top level of the guides) and a readme.html file.

6. Drag ONLY the unzipped folder titled: WDW_ToGo_Full, WDW_ToGo_Menus, and/or WDW_ToGo_Live into the Notes folder of your iPod

7. Unmount your iPod and you’re done

Notes:

1.When installing the guides in your Notes folder. You are only allowed 1000 pages in the iPod Notes folder. This is all the combined pages from the Walt Disney World To Go guides and any other note files you may choose to install on your iPod. The Walt Disney World To Go guides are around 800 pages, so there is less than 200 pages of space available for other notes. When you are using the Walt Disney World To Go guides on your iPod, you might want to limit other notes on your iPod to insure proper operation of you iPod notes feature.

2. Be sure to update your iPod software to the latest version. Check this page: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ at Apple.com to make sure you have the latest version of iPod software for your iPod.

iPod version iPod Software Version required
3G - iPod 3.2.1
4G - iPod Photo 1.2.1
5G - iPod with video 1.1.1
iPod Mini 1.4.1
iPod Nano 1.1.1

3. To see which version of the iPod software you have on your iPod... Go to the "Settings" item selection in your iPod (on the same screen with "Music", "Extras", "Clock"...) select "Settings, then select "About". Usually towards the bottom of the screen, right above your "Model" and "S/N" you should see "Version", then on the right side of the screen you will see your iPod Software Version. If it is not one of the above versions (or later) you will need to update your iPod software for proper operation.

4. Very important! Do not rename or delete any of the files or folders in the iPod version as it could cause the guide to not function. Just install the guide on your iPod as it is and use it and enjoy it.

To read the guides
1. From the main menu of your iPod choose Extras.

2. From the Extras menu choose Notes

3. The first time you select the Notes folder after you install notes or make changes to the notes folder, the iPod will go through an initialization process. During this time you will see the message on your iPod “Notes Loading” and an increasing count. The iPod is counting the pages you have installed in your Notes folder. Allow this process to complete and your iPod is ready for you to read the Notes installed.

4. Choose the guide you want to read, WDW_ToGo_Full, WDW_ToGo_Menus, or WDW_ToGo_Live

5. You will see two items in each folder. Walt Disney World To Go, Walt Disney World Live Entertainment, or Menus of Walt Disney World. These are the opening pages you will also see an item titled “zguide, zlive, or zmenus”. These are the folders that contain the pages that make up the guides. You can open these pages, however I recommend that you open the entry page and follow the links presented.

6. To read any section just scroll to it using the scroll wheel, available links will show with a darker underline, just click (press your select button) to open it.

Note: The first time you select a link to open a specific page, it may take longer than you might expect. This is normal, it is just a process used by the iPod to open pages and keep track of pages you have opened.

If you’ve not read text on an iPod before, it is nice and easy, as you’d expect. In fact it will probably take you less time to work it out for yourself than it does to read these instructions, but just i case you like reading instructions...

Use the scroll wheel to scroll up and down the text. The iPod even supports simple linking, which we’ve taken advantage of in the Walt Disney World To Go guides. At the top of each section you’ll find links to its subsections. Links are shown as a subtle underline. The current link has a solid underline. To select the current link just click the select button, in the center of the click wheel. As you scroll through the text, the iPod automatically jumps to the next link, and it becomes the current link.

The menu button takes you up to the next level.

To Get back to the Notes Folder (close the guide and use other iPod functions), press and hold the “Menu” button for about 1/2 second and you will be presented with the main iPod menu list.

Help For iSilo and Plucker

In order to use the Walt Disney World To Go guides, you need a viewer application on your Palm OS device. Currently there are two that are usable with the Walt Disney World To Go guides. They are the commercial viewer (iSilo) and the open source (free) viewer (Plucker). The doc readers (iSilo and Plucker) are available at the following locations:

iSilo - http://www.isilo.com
Plucker - http://www.plkr.org
Be sure to get the proper version for your device and PDA OS.

The commercial version (iSilo) has better technical support, but you will pay $19.95 for a single user license. The Plucker version is a very good viewer, many of the registered users of the Walt Disney World To Go guides use the Plucker version (the price is right), but lots of folks also use the iSilo version. You should try both and decide which you like best.

Registered users can download the Plucker version from The (Walt Disney World To Go) Registered Users download page using the link and information presented in the email you received when you registered the guide.

Just follow the instructions to get to the download page, towards the bottom of the page are download links to download the Plucker viewer. For most Palm OS devices you need to download the Plucker v1.8 For Palm OS (hi-res version ) (just select the link “Download”). The hi-res version should work on most Palm OS devices. If you have an older Palm OS device running Palom OS 3.x or earlier, you might try Plucker version 1.2, also some devices are bettter with the non-hires version. If unsure, try the hi-res version first, if that wokrs OK, you’re good. If not then try the other versions. There is also some limited information about the Plucker version on the eGuidesToGo site at:

http://www.eguidestogo.com/eguide/help.html

If you want you can download the Plucker version directly from the Plucker web site at:

http://www.plkr.org/dl

On the right side of the page you will see the following text ---

Pucker 1.8 Viewer Package (viewer only, no distiller)
This package does NOT contain any distiller components. This ONLY contains the Plucker viewer application, and a sample User Guide in Plucker format.

Hires Plucker viewer, English only, no distiller components.
torrent for .zip
torrent for .bz2
zip / bzip2

Be sure to download the zip version not the torrent or bzip2 version. As another benefit to registered users, it is easier to just to download this viewer from the Registered Users Download page.

There is also a tour of the Plucker viewer on the Plucker site, this tour is for an older version, so there are some differences, but the major description is there, this is because it is community supported, it is usually done in spare time, but this is still an excellent viewer, just not as much support as for iSilo.
Anyway, read the tour to help with some understanding of Plucker at:

http://www2.parc.com/isl/members/janssen/pubs/plucker-tour/

Note: Plucker does not function from expansion cards. You must install Plucker (viewer_en.prc), the Zlib file (SysZLib.prc) and all Plucker documents (like Walt Disney World To Go) in main memory to work.

To Download the iSilo version go to the iSilo site and download iSilo version 4.28 for Palm OS at:

http://www.isilo.com/download/index.htm

iSilo™ 4.28 for Palm OS®: The iSilo™ document reader for Palm OS® handhelds.

http://www.isilo.com/download/iSiloPalmOS.htm

There is also an online manual for iSilo, should you decide to get the iSilo version, be sure to read the online manual at:

http://www.isilo.com/support/manual/iSilo/iSiloManual.htm

Remember, when you choose a viewer, you also need to download the appropriate version of the guides, (Plucker or iSilo) from the Registered Users Download Page.

After you have downloaded the viewer(s) and guides you want, you need to copy them to your Palm OS device. This usually involves a HotSync. During the HotSync setup, you will need to select the components (viewers and guides) you want to copy to your Palm OS device. The setup usually involves launching your Palm Desktop application (you got this with your Palm OS device, you may also be using it to synchronize your calendars and contact lists.

After you launch the Palm Desktop application you should see a menu that just says “HotSync”

There should be a menu option, “Install HandHeld Files...” From there you will be presented with a dialog box and you can browse your desktop (laptop) computer for the files you want to install.

Keep in mind, you MUST have a viewer to see the document (Walt Disney World To Go guide) files, these files are only visible using the viewer (Plucker or iSilo).

After you install the application(s) (Plucker and/or iSilo) and the guide files you should then access them using your Palm OS device, be sure to read the viewer manuals to become familiar with usage.

Additional Help for iSilo with PocketPC

How can I copy files from my Windows® PC computer to the "\My Documents\iSilo" directory of my Pocket PC device?

If the "Pocket_PC My Documents" directory does not exist on your Windows® PC desktop, then you need to enable ActiveSync®'s File synchronization option. Do this:

1. On your Windows® PC, start ActiveSync® by double-clicking the ActiveSync® icon in the icon tray in the lower right of the task bar.
2. In the Tools menu, click Options.
3. Check the Files - Synchronized Files icon.
4. Click OK.

The "Pocket_PC My Documents" directory should then be created on your desktop. You can then open the directory, create the "iSilo" directory within it, and then copy your documents to that directory.
